Description

Sr. Frances of the Sacred Heart, the third President for Emmanuel College. She was born Catherine Cahill
in 1856 in Ireland. Sr. Frances came to the United States in 1868 and in 1878, while living in Lowell, entered the
Sisters of Notre Dame. Sr. Frances taught in Holyoke and Chicopee and then was named Superior of the Boston Academy of Notre Dame in 1892. She served as
Provincial Superior for the Eastern Province from 1920-1928 before becoming president of Emmanuel College in 1929. During her term, the Notre Dame Academy found a new home on Granby Street. This move gave the college complete use of the Fenway building.
